The two chows looked at one another cautiously. They examined the large footprint in the snow as they listened to the distant thundering footfalls of the berserker chow.
“Yknow..maybe you may have the right idea of it being too warm..but what if we-…yknow the ice lake nearby?” Velvet questioned snowball with an inquisitive eyebrow raise as they raised a metallic glimmering paw.
Snowball paused and seemed to think “oh! Yeah! I know the one what about it?” He questioned with a bit of a bounce.
“What if. We trick the chow into chasing us. And we thin a part of the ice so it can fall through it! Then it’ll be stuck back in the freezing water and maybe it’ll be cold enough!” Velvet beamed with an excited expression as he proudly proclaimed his idea and immediately without really waiting for snowballs response grabbed firewood and began to trot to the ice lake.
Snowball followed behind with quick footsteps “hey now- I don’t know…are you sure it’ll be enough to thin the ice…?”
“You got any better ideas ottherrr than snowballs?” Velvet drawled with a bit of a deadpan expression as he began to set up a circle of wood on the ice before lighting them aflame.
“No you’re right….what if after the woods out it’s too thick…?” Snowball worriedly brought up with a furrowed brow
“Then we jump around the edge and use sticks to break the ice ring!!” Velvet proudly beamed as he watched the ice slowly begin to thaw and he. Walked around the circle thumping it with his feet encouraging snowball to do the same as he beamed proudly.
Snowball following suit slowly carefully began to thump away at the ice with his paws and slowly the ice thinned and cracked now a free floating circle left behind.
“See!!!! Now I’m sure the berserker will be heavy enough to flip the ice!!!” Velvet bounced around happily
A deep growl came from behind the two chows. Icy breath billowed over the surface of the ice. The circle refrozen over in an instant…
Velvet immediately beginning to sweat looked at snowball and stammered “oh no- run!!!”
