First Day of Fall

It was the first day of autumn, the leaves had already started to turn red, orange, and yellow though. And the air was getting crisper with each passing day. Plants were starting to wilt in preparation for the winter, each flower and fern will have to wait to bloom once again after winter when spring rolls back around. Even as a species with fur, Chowlings still bundled up for that extra bit of warmth or breaker from the harsher fall winds. Scribbles, was no different either. They donned their usual belt with their assortment of markers they used to write on their white fur. And a nice brand new scarf they'd gotten just a couple days ago. The scarf was soft with a plaid pattern and was a nice deep dark shade of red. They had patterned themselves up by drawing red fallen leaves on their body and a few ghosts in black outline for a bit of a Halloween look. Though it wasn't Halloween yet. They still had a ways to go before then. Still though, Scribbles loved fall. They loved decorating their house with Halloween decorations, baking fall treats, and they definitely loved the sound of the crackling leaves under their paws.

Scribbles had a lot planned today. In fact, they even had a whole list written down on a whiteboard in their house. At the top of the list was getting ready to go out for the day, of course. This included their new get-up they were already equipped with. The next thing on their list? Transfer the lost onto their arm so they could have it handy all day. So that's what they did next. With their gray colored pen they wrote out everything they had planned on their left arm. Making sure not to forget anything. When they finished they popped the gray marker back in the belt carrying case and now they could make their way outside. To which they opened the door to the nice, fresh fall air.

Scribbles stepped out of their home, making sure to shut the door behind them. They had the whole day ahead of them now, no distractions, just them and their list of first day of fall things to-do. Remembering the next thing on the list they headed off, walking down the sidewalk and taking in the scenery as they did so. Some trees were still green, but others were showing quite a few orange or yellow leaves. It was still early in the season though, so that was to be expected. They made their way down the street, heading into downtown. Other Chows were up and about too, going about their day to day things. It didn't take much longer until Scribbles arrived at their destination though, they now stood in front of a local coffee shop. There were posters on the window that had a picture of a steaming coffee on it in an orange colored cup. The poster read: Pumpkin Spice is BACK!

Scribbles tapped their toes in excitement, that was exactly what they wanted to see. They opened the door of the coffee shop, the little bell dinging as they did. The shop was pretty busy despite it being early morning. There wasn't usually a line, and if there was, it was a line of one. Today there were five people waiting in line, and most of the seats were filled with people drinking coffee and eating breakfast. Good thing they hadn't planned to dine-in. They were getting their coffee to go. They stood in line now, waiting until it was their turn and finally ordered the coveted pumpkin spice coffee to-go. They paid and in just a few minutes were called for their order. The cup was orange like in the poster and it sported a black top and black colored sleeve holder. Festive.

Now they needed to head to the next thing on their list, first taking the time to cross off getting coffee on their arm with a black marker. Next stop would be the bakery. Last night they had ordered three dozen fall-themed cupcakes for today. And now they could go pick them up. They headed towards the bakery, drinking their pumpkin spice coffee on the walk there. Of course though, they got to the bakery before they finished the coffee, and they were definitely gonna need both hands to carry all the cupcakes. So they stood outside the bakery for a bit to finish it up. Once they had they threw away the cup and headed inside the bakery, another bell dinging to signify their entry. There was only one other customer inside the bakery today, seemed they were grabbing some freshly baked bread. Once they had finished up Scribbles walked up to the counter, telling the worker at the desk they were here to pick up an order. They gave a nod and told them to sit tight a moment and they'd go grab it and bring it out for them. The worker came back carrying three boxes stacked on top of each other filled with delicious cupcakes. He slid them over the desk to Scribbles and thanked them for their patronage. They'd already paid for the cupcakes when they ordered them so now they just needed to get them to where they were off to next. The final thing on their list.

Scribbles grabbed all three dozen cupcakes and headed out, taking care to walk carefully as they now held a lot of delicate snacks. They were onto their last thing on the list, the park. This time it was a much longer walk as the park was closer to the other side of town, but that didn't stop Scribbles. They were on a mission. And of course they eventually made it, managing to get the cupcakes there perfectly in tact. The park looked glorious, it was all decorated in fall themed decor. And a banner at the entrance to the park read: Happy First Day of Fall!!!

Scribbles entered the park now, heading over to where they knew the main festivities were being held. There were a bunch of picnic tables and fold out tables set up in this area, and quite a few people were here, also setting up food and putting out paper plates on the fold out tables for when people would arrive. The party didn't start until noon and it was currently an hour until then. So they had plenty of time to set up.

Scribbles set down their cupcakes, lining up each dozen box in a row so people could choose one out of any box. They'd set them next to the chocolate fountain, seeing that as the perfect place for them, near the middle. On the other side someone had nearly as many cookies as they'd brought of cupcakes. Their tail wagged happily. They couldn't wait to try them. Taking a step back they looked at the table with joy and then turned, going to help someone else if they needed it with party set up.
