More detailed backstory can be read in her literature! CW: Death
Hanayo was originally born as a human, living in a remote village deep within a thick bamboo forest at the base of an unnamed mountain. As a sacrifice for the prosperity of the village, she embodies the Spirit of Spring, which grants her many divine powers. She can live forever (although can be killed), she has the innate ability to allow nearby plants to grow prosperously, and she can shapeshift. As the rest of her village passed and became long forgotten, she still lives in her original home in the middle of the bamboo forest, growing cherry blossom trees, gardens, and bonsai in place and in rememberence of the dilapidated houses and forgotten villagers.
After who knows how long, Hanayo, used to living alone and not seeing any other beings for months on end, notices a town slowly growing about a half an hour walk away from her home. She learns this is the world of the Sylphlings, and decides it is time to interact with the world and society again. With the help of the Spirit of Spring, she is able to shapeshift into her own Sylphling form and now often stops into town (at least once a week) to converse with the other Sylphling and to sell her wares (seeds, flowers, fruits and vegetables, and bonsai mostly). She grows more as more come to the Sylphling world, but still has a lot to learn about the world and about accepting herself.
